So who's got the scoop on the 10 part adaptation that's airing in Russia? Any clue how to get it here?
I'm not sure it'll be all that great, but I'm curious anyway.
Here's an article po-angliski, btw

Re: M & M on TV
Tue, December 20, 2005 - 9:21 AMI think that this sounds fabulous. I'll put out the word to my friends in Moscow that I want a copy. Unfortunately most everyone I know there is consistently unreliable but it's still worth a shot. I'll let you know if I have any luck in getting a copy and I'd appreciate it if you'd do the same for me. -

It looks like it's around but this place wants $60 which won't happen. You just know it's got to be about $6 in Russia, unless things have changed. I'll keep an eye out at the video stores, though. -

Re: M & M on TV
Wed, February 22, 2006 - 10:25 AMi saw M&M in dvd format on web through torrent file sharing... but most likely it would take a few days to download :) if you can make a dvd copy of m&m in any region/pal/ntse etc i'd appreciate it, pl email me at: andre30725@gmail.com
btw if you have Philips DVP642 dvd player (approx $60 at bestbuy or walmart) it's very easy to hack it with remote control to play any region/format (press "5-6-9 + OK" on remote ) -

Re: M & M on TV
Tue, March 21, 2006 - 10:04 PMnone of them have subtitles. Do I spend $60 on a DVD set most of which I won't be able to understand? Not sure. It would be good practice and I do know the story pretty well, but...

Re: M & M on TV
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 10:17 AMI saw the entire series back in February. It was soooo bad that only my admiration for the book gave me strength to finish watching.
The enire production looks like something shot in mid-80ies in the Leningrad TV Studio.. down to the same old and inept continuity engineers and makeup artists. Actors who filled the main characters may have been around since the first Sputnik flight and they are of course decorated performers but... the novel is clear on the ages of its main heroes - Voland is 40-something, Pilates is definitely not a senile oldster that appears in the movie.
Master and Margarita (!) are both non-events! Master has a permanent confused and bemuddled face expression and vocal emotional range of Al Gore. Margarita thoroughly recreated the personality of her heroine from Banditski Peterburg.
The movie is static, boring, visually unimpressive, brilliant dialogues are corrupted with Bortko's innovations...
That is not to say that there are no bright spots - some scenes can take you back to time when you first read the book and were awestruck by beaty of the storyline; certain characters definitely shine (no thanks to the director) like Azazello, Stepa, Nikanor, Rimsky and some others.
So here's my five cents. Still worth seeing though cuz apparently a lot of people enjoyed it to a point of rapture.. so go ahead and see it and come back to throw your rotten tomatoes at me -

Re: M & M on TV
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 10:56 AMAh- that's too bad! I will probably still watch it eventually. Maybe it'll seem better if I'm not expecting as much to begin with. My friends in Russia were glued to it, so I had high hopes.
