best translation / edition?

m&m's been on my read list for a while now, and i think im ready to jump in. can anyone recommend or warn against any of the myriad editions available? (a quick search on the ubiquitious amazon beast suggested three different editions)

    I realise this is a bit late, but I just joined this tribe and remember what someone else said about M&M translations:

    The Pevear &Volokhonsky translation of Master and Margarita is very accurate, but with Bulgakov, that doesn't result in the most understandable text. Burgin and Connors do an excellent job adapting it for an English-speaking audience without losing the strangeness of the original.
